Irise Institute East Africa (IIEA) is a dynamic non-governmental organization established in 2016,
dedicated to advancing menstrual health, gender equality, and girls’ empowerment across the
East African region.
IIEA hosts the Period Equality Network (TPEN)—a vibrant coalition of over 270 grassroots and
national organizations working collectively to end period poverty and menstrual stigma. Over
the next two years, IIEA will implement an ambitious regional agenda focused on advocacy,
communications, cross-learning, and network strengthening to accelerate progress toward
menstrual justice.

Purpose of the Role
The Senior Communications and Partnerships Coordinator will play a pivotal role in enhancing
IIEA’s capacity to engage strategically with TPEN partners and stakeholders across East Africa.
This role will strengthen network coordination, lead digital communications and partnership
strategies, and ensure effective management of the TPEN small grants and resource-sharing
platforms.
Reporting to the Head of Programs, the Coordinator will champion strategic partnerships,
advocacy, and communications, fostering a collaborative and results-driven network that
amplifies grassroots leadership and drives menstrual justice regionally and globally.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Partnerships and Network Coordination
 Lead the coordination and implementation of TPEN’s Strategic Plan and partnerships
framework, ensuring alignment with IIEA’s mission and regional menstrual health
priorities.
 Strengthen TPEN as a regional model for grassroots collaboration, enabling inclusive
participation and leadership across partner organizations.
 Facilitate the TPEN Small Grants Program, ensuring transparent selection, capacity
support, and timely reporting.
 Support the creation and operationalization of the MHH Advocacy Working Group,
amplifying grassroots voices in national, regional, and global advocacy spaces.
 Conduct strategic analysis to assess and improve partnership models, ensuring
sustainable, high-impact collaboration with civil society, social enterprises, and
government stakeholders.
2. Communications and Digital Engagement
 Develop and implement a robust communications and visibility strategy for TPEN and
IIEA.
 Oversee the use of the CRM and digital resource hub, ensuring timely, accessible
information sharing for TPEN members.
 Lead the development and management of online platforms, including the Small Grants
Portal and Knowledge Resource Hub, to promote learning, collaboration, and
transparency.
 Generate compelling stories, reports, and advocacy materials to raise IIEA’s and TPEN’s
visibility among regional and global audiences.
 Coordinate digital campaigns and online advocacy to advance menstrual health and
gender equality narratives.
3. Partnership Capacity Strengthening and Learning
 Design and facilitate capacity-strengthening initiatives for TPEN members in advocacy,
communications, and partnership management.
 Lead the development of Communities of Practice (CoPs) across East Africa to foster
peer learning, innovation, and collective problem-solving.
 Document and disseminate lessons learned, success stories, and best practices across
the network and global menstrual justice movements.
 Facilitate systematic partner feedback and ensure continuous improvement in
partnership management.
4. Advocacy and External Engagement
 Strengthen East African-led menstrual justice advocacy by collaborating with ministries,
regional bodies, and global partners such as the Global Menstrual Collective.
Lead the preparation of annual policy briefs and network impact reports to inform
advocacy and influence decision-making at national and regional levels through TPEN
Project Steering Committee
 Coordinate joint initiatives with governments and partners to ensure grassroots
priorities inform regional and global policy agendas.
5. Performance Monitoring and Knowledge Management
 Monitor and analyze TPEN’s performance metrics, ensuring data-driven decision-making
and adaptive management.
 Contributes to the design of joint impact indicators and evaluation frameworks for
network initiatives.
 Prepare progress reports, strategic updates, and briefing notes for the Senior
Management Team and TPEN Advisory Committee.

Qualifications and Competencies
 Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Project Management, Social Sciences, or a
related field (Master’s degree preferred).
 Minimum of 5 years of experience in partnership management, communications, or
network coordination within NGOs or international organizations.
 Proven experience in strategic communications, advocacy, and small grants
management.
 Strong understanding of donor compliance, partnership frameworks, and CRM
systems.
 Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, strategic writing, facilitation, and digital
communications.
 Demonstrated success in managing multi-stakeholder networks and leading regional or
cross-border initiatives.
 Exceptional communication and presentation skills in English; proficiency in another
regional language is an asset.
 Highly organized, adaptable, proactive, and solutions-oriented with the ability to
manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments.

To lead, develop and manage the program team to achieve the aspirations of Irise Institute East Africa (IIEA) 5 Year Strategy 2021-2025 through Programme Development, effective coordination, consolidation, technical support and guidance by ensuring a cohesive team spirit and motivation to perform. She manages and ensures resource mobilization, prioritization and allocation, work plan coherence to deliver of all running projects of IIEA. This role is responsible for working with Partners and Allies to foster long-term relationship to successfully deliver on commitment obligations.
